Individual Assignment #2:
Internal Conflict:
Inner conflict occurs when one is confronted with a problem that presents difficult choices. One must make a decision one way or another. Internal conflicts are thing or happening in your life that you recall.
When Corrie was on the train with her dad she asked him what sexsin was but he knew that she was too young to know what that meant. So Corrie's dad told her to pick up his luggage and carry it for him. Corrie picked up the luggage and told her dad that it was too heavy for her and he said that if he would have told her what that word meant that it would just be too much for her to know and carry. The conflict was resolved by her father telling her that she was too young to know about that kind of stuff. It was the first day of school and Corrie and her older sisters went down to breakfast. After breakfast Corrie's older sisters got up and left but Corrie did not. Her mother thought that Corrie had forgotten that she had school that day but the truth was, was that she just didn't want to go. This conflict was resolved by her father walking her to school himself and telling her that everything was going to be okay. Corrie's mother was very ill. Corrie was in her mother's room keeping her company while she lay there sick and tired. Corrie asked her mother what she was thinking about. A friend? A family member? Someone you met on the street? Yes her mother replied. Was it a man Corrie asked but her mother said no. It was some woman that her mother had met on the street. That night her mother died of sickness. There was no way to resolve this conflict because sickness is not something that you can always control but Corrie loved her mom with all her heart.
Tanate Anna felt very depressed after her sister Tante Bep had died. Tante Anna was the youngest in her family ad even though she sometimes thinks tat sh has the bigger burden she always gets paid more than her sisters. Finally, is Tante Anna going to have enough food and clothes for these foster children she is taking in. She will probably have to get a job.
External Conflicts:
External conflict occurs when one faces someone else or some situation that is working against one's own desires or goals.
Corrie visited Fred Koornstra's house because she needed a couple of ration cards for the Jews she was keeping in her house. When Fred asked how many she needed she blurted out the number 100 because she wanted t have extras for other Jews that she could help. At first Fred was not sure if he could gather up 100 of those cards but then he came to his senses and knew that there was a way to gather up the cards. Corrie faces a police officer in her house who is buying a watch while there are Jews right up the stairs. Corrie thought that tis police officer was at first looking for Jews but then she relized that he was just there to visit the watch shop. This problem is resolved by Corrie and her family acting totally normal. Corrie wants and asks her father if they can hide some Jews in theirs house because they are against the Nazis way. Her father agrees to the idea but knows that they have no safe place to hide these people. Corrie and her father find some contractors and build a secret room in the wall where no one could ever find.
Tante Anna did most of the heavy housework for a family of nine. Anna would go with Corrie to run errands and hold don te house while Corrie's mother was very sick. Tante Anna could not really fix this conflict because she knew that she ad a dedication to this family. Tante Anna also had to double her house work after her sister Tante Bep died. This death effected the way she treated people and how much work she had and wanted to do. Finally, Tante Anna was against the Nazi way externally by helping Corrie hide Jews in their house.
Good examples of conflicts. I especially like how Father has Corrie pick up the heavy luggage to explain when things are too heavy to understand. It was a good metaphor to use and one that Corrie could understand.

Assignment 3
Hitler made it mandatory for the youth to enter into his Nazi army so he could have a lot of soldiers. In January 1933, the Hitler Youth had only 50,000 members, but by the end of the year this figure had increased to more than 2 million. By 1936 membership in the Hitler Youth increased to 5.4 million before it became mandatory in 1939. The German authorities then prohibited or dissolved competing youth organizations. After this drafting idea became mandatory Hitler had millions of soldiers to help him win the war. Hitler knew that he had to quickly draft the young ones into the war because they were too young to understand all of the political views. Since the youths were younger and did not have their own political views they usually just sided with Hitler and fought for him because Hitler made it seem like it was the right thing to do. If he drafted older men they might already have their own opinion and think against Hitler, and not fight for him. Exactly. He brainwashed them with so much propaganda; they knew nothing else, so they accepted it without questioning it.

Assignment 4
A bandwagon is a party, cause, or movement, that by its mass appeal orstrengthreadily attractsmany followers. The word bandwagon fits into the story because everyone who is against the Nazi way help and hide the Jews that Hitler is trying to kill. A scapegoat is a person or group made to bear the blame for others or to suffer in their place. This word reminds me of when Corrie and her family are at one of the concentration camps and she tells the Nazis that this was all her fault and that it had nothing to do with her father and sister.
In terms of the bandwagon, you're close. Everyone was 'jumping on the Hitler bandwagon' because they had no choice. Germans were told what to think, and how to think, and if they did not agree, they risked their lives. It was easier to agree and not ask questions, even if one did not think it was something he or she supported.
The scapegoat referred to the Jewsbecause Hitler blamed the Jews for everything that had gone wrong in Germany - especially the economic problems and the lack of jobs. You're right; Corrie did take the blame when she was in the concentration camp, but usually other people make you the scapegoat. Corrie just took the blame to save her father and sister.
